CREATIVE TECH FEST 2024 BLOGS

As part of the _LAB event we invited budding young photographers to capture creative tech in action while partaking in workshops and activities. Our two competition winners each won a Lenovo tablet. Click below to see some of the fabulous submissions.

Participants in the Creative Tech for Social Impact Hackathon worked together on some incredibly innovative projects; including an app to connect communities, an assistive speech recognition device and a pothole detector and mapper.

Our _GREENTECH event brought together over 80 Key Stage 3 pupils from schools across Basildon to learn about, and get hands-on with, future technologies that will help with the challenge of climate change. Read a blog about the day-long summit.

8th Feb - Creative Tech Fest _GREENTECH (sold out)

What future technologies will help us with the challenge of climate change?

We've teamed up with with STEM Learning and STEMPOINT to bring you a one-day conference to explore climate challenges + present and future technological solutions.

Local teachers are invited to register a group of up to 10 KS3 pupils + 2 teachers.

10th Feb - Creative Tech Fest _LAB (sold out)

Play with some cutting edge technology, explore how everyday tech skills could lead to interesting careers, and have some fun. 

At this drop-in event, young people will be encouraged to work individually or in small groups on challenges or activities set by local businesses and providers.

12th Feb - Health Tech Careers Roadshow

Health Tech Careers Roadshow

Learn about the rich variety of roles in health based STEAM careers.

The event will include interactive career stations, activities and workshops to help young people visually bridge the gap between what they enjoy doing, and what they could potentially do as a future career.

12th Feb - Creative Tech for Social Impact Hackathon 1

Ideate, plan and develop a project that promotes the social cause of your choice.

Join Southend Tech for a special online hackathon event. Gain experience in the process of developing a project, working in a team and promoting significant causes to help the local community.

12th + 13th Feb - Signals Creative Digital Workshops (not public access)

Signals Creative Digital Workshops in schools

Award-winning creative media charity, Signals, will be taking animation and games design workshops into two Basildon schools. The inspirational sessions, taught by industry professionals, will provide insights into working creatively with digital technologies - supporting students to become digital creators rather than just consumers.

13th Feb - Creative Tech Fest _LEARN

Creative Tech Fest _LEARN

How can we embrace the power of AI in education? An event for educational professionals.

Through a series of talks and hands-on activities, educators will be able to play, learn and apply new skills - with tech giveaways for participants. We'll look at the latest tech and research into how emerging tools - particularly in AI - can be harnessed in learning spaces to free up educators in their capacity and creativity.

15th Feb - GANIMATE (1)

South Essex College invites you for an interactive evening of animation with Lawrence Bignell and Mitchell Denis.

Participate in live animation workshops and meet 3rd year BA students who will be exhibiting  their work. Dive into the digital universe with cutting-edge creations that push the boundaries of creativity.

19th Feb - Lego Fun Event (sold out)

Come and enjoy LEGO® at Laindon Library and be inspired to create and build.

This Lego Fun Event is aimed at 5-11 year-olds. All children must be supervised by a parent/carer/guardian.

 

19th Feb - This Is Our Space

Come and build an interactive urban installation with Studio 40 Architects and architecture students from Anglia Ruskin University. A one day workshop for young people aged 13-18.

Let's build, play and imagine Basildon's future together.

**Young people under 18 and vulnerable adults must be accompanied at all times.

19th Feb - Creative Tech for Social Impact Hackathon 2

An online presentation of creative tech projects that promote social causes created by Southend Tech Hackathon participants.

20th Feb - GANIMATE (2)

South Essex College invites you to meet Dan Balls, Steve O’Shea and Petrit Shala from their IT and Games Development team.

Participate in live workshops on Raspberry Pi and 2D games production and meet 1st and 2nd year BA students who will be exhibiting their work. Dive into the digital universe with cutting-edge creations that push the boundaries of creativity.

22nd Feb - Starting Your Tech Career

Young adult or older career-changer thinking about a career in tech but not sure where to start?

This networking event from Technergise will provide some essential direction, with an introductory masterclass on getting started with tech.

23rd Feb - Creative Tech Fest _PRODUCTIVITY

A showcase of emerging technologies, innovations and creative thinking shaping the future of business in Basildon and beyond.

From AI to hybrid working, XR to the Internet of Things, this morning event will be a mix of networking, demonstrations, talks and fireside chats with breakfast.

23rd Feb - Gateway Radio Open Day

Award-winning community radio station, GATEWAY 97.8, is opening its doors to the public for a behind-the-scenes peek at their studios in the heart of Basildon's Eastgate.

Learn about radio engineering, presenting and various pathways into media during the morning session. Take part in a special Junior Question Time, which goes out live on the radio in the afternoon.
