What future technologies will help us with the challenge of climate change?
We've teamed up with the N&E Herts, Essex, Beds and MK Science Learning Partnership, part of STEM Learning to bring you a one-day conference for KS3 pupils and their teachers from schools across the Basildon area.
This summit will bring together local and national partners from across the education, research and the wider STEM sectors to enhance teacher and student understanding of the science and implications of climate change.
The aim of the summit is to highlight to young people and their teachers the challenges we face but also focus on what possible solutions there are and new future technologies that can help.

INSPIRATIONAL TALK FROM
Yasmin Ali
Yasmin Ali is a chemical engineer, dedicated to developing renewable energy projects.
Having worked in coal and gas fired power stations, oil and gas, district heating systems, and energy innovation, Yasmin transitioned away from fossil fuels into more sustainable energy systems over the course of her career.
In addition, Yasmin has given over a hundred talks about engineering and energy, written for the BBC and Metro, featured in TV and radio programmes and completed a British Science Association Media Fellowship with the BBC's Science Unit.
In recognition of her public engagement work, she has been awarded and shortlisted for multiple industry awards, including the 2020 Women’s Engineering Society’s top 50 female engineers in sustainability.
Workshops with
These 50 minute workshops will allow students some hands-on experience and a more in-depth focus on one aspect of the topic. Each workshop will have 20-25 students, and will be repeated 3 times during the day.
The workshops are not simply a talk - they will involve students 'doing/practical work/team work/debating', and not just "listening'.

About Peter Schwier
About Luke Wotton
Luke is Chartered Engineer with over 9 years’ experience in Automotive and Agricultural Vehicle Design. Luke graduated from Brunel University in 2015 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and spent several years working at McLaren and Ford Motor Company, before joining CNH Industrial in 2018 to play a crucial role in the design of its New Holland T6.180 Methane Powered tractor, the world’s first 100% methane powered production tractor.
The tractor is key to completing the cycle of the Energy Independent Farm system. Farmers grow crops and use waste products to generate biomethane, which powers the tractor, which, in turn, helps to grow those very crops. CNH is leading the way in producing alternative propulsion products that provide the agricultural industry with real world solutions towards its goal of sustainability.
Luke currently works in the Alternative Fuels Engineering Team based in Basildon, focusing on developing alternative fuelled technology for its range of tractors, including the recently unveiled T7 LNG tractor, named one of the best inventions of 2023.
