Build a battery
Taking part in our battery experiment will give you the opportunity to explore the science behind batteries – and why they are such an important part of our bright energy future.

What it’s about
Discover the power of science in this hands-on workshop where you’ll build a working battery and see if you can light up an LED! Explore the fascinating science behind batteries and uncover why they play such a key role in our bright energy future.
What to expect
This interactive workshop is perfect for ages 8–12 (KS2 and early KS3) and requires no prior knowledge or experience. During the session, participants will:
- Build a functioning battery using provided equipment
- Investigate the factors that affect battery performance
- Learn how batteries are shaping the future of energy
Parents are asked to remain with their children for the duration of the workshop.
What the aims are
This event is designed to:
- Inspire curiosity about energy and its role in a sustainable future
- Offer a practical, fun introduction to the science behind batteries
- Encourage young people to explore problem-solving and experimentation
